2011 The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 Limited Edition: launched 300 units at the Geneva Motor Show

City Car

As the name suggests a city car is a car designed for use in urban areas, they are compact and highly manoeuvrable. 'City cars' is sometimes used as an umbrella term for a small car, also known as subcompacts or superminis.

Compact
Size wise a compact car fits between a supermini and a mid-sized car, such as a saloon or hatchback, in Europe they would fall into the C-Segment category.

Crossover
A crossover is a combination of two different types of vehicle, normally a SUV is crossed with a hatchback, city car or MPR. Crossovers are relatively new additions to the car market, but there are many examples, including the Nissan Juke, a compact SUV, and the Peugeot 3008 a mix of hatchback and SUV.

Estate

An estate car, or station wagon as it is known in the US, is a saloon car with an extended boot area. Due to the amount of boot space estates make good family cars.

Hatchback

A hatchback is similar to a saloon except access to the boot is through a large rear door, that often incorporates the window, whilst a saloon has a lift up boot lid. Hatchbacks are available as three or five doors, and many hatchback models, such as the Volkswagen Golf, Peugeot 207 and Ford Focus, have saloon versions to.

Hot Hatch

Hot hatch is an informal term for a hot hatchback, a three or five door hatchback that is considered to be a 'high performance' car, i.e. they are fitted with turbocharger and offer a sporty driving experience. The Volkswagen Golf GTI is commonly touted as the original hot hatch, and is still very popular today.

The 3008 combines Hybrid4 2.0 HDI FAP engine of 163 hp and electric 27 kW (37 hp) extra. The latter to operate the rear axle, so it is all wheel drive.
With a maximum power of 200 hp, achieves a consumption of 3.8 litres/100 approved and emissions of 99 g / km of CO2.

Peugeot iOn electric travel forever

In the context of concern for the environment, Peugeot has once again shown its ability to create new responses and adapt to its offer to meet the changing needs of the world. Recent developments in battery design have thrown up many possibilities in electric travel and with gradual replacement of Nickel Cadmium batteries by Lithium batteries, lesser recharges and greater distance covering with one recharge is now possible.

2011 the new Peugeot HR1

The French carmaker has just unveil the Peugeot HR1 concept at the Paris auto show. The Peugeot HR1 is powered by the company's HYbrid4 technology which includes a 1.2 liter 3-cylinder petrol engine that develops 110 bhp and 195 Nm of torque and an electric motor with 27 bhp / 37 bhp of continuous power and 100 Nm / 200 Nm torque. The power is sent to the wheels via an electronically-controlled six-speed manual gearbox. The Peugeot HR1 is rated with a 81 mpg fuel consumption and a 80 g/km CO2 emissions level.

The Peugeot HR1 features a range of new technologies, including rear "stowaway seat" system and an hands-free onboard system control.

Peugeot HR1: the lowdown

The HR1 is powered by an iteration of Peugeot's HYbrid4 system, and the company claims figures of 81mpg and 80g/km of CO2.

The hybrid module follows Peugeot's format: the front wheels are driven by a 1.2 three-cylinder; the rear wheels are powered by electric motors.
How big is the HR1 at Paris?

It's pretty tiny, at less than 4m long. The doors are scissor-operated and open electrically. Peugeot says the styling epitomises the design of the SR1 concept car and - you know what - we're starting to get it now.

For such a short, city car sized vehicle, the HR1 has impressive load lugging credentials. Peugeot cites a 734 litre boot with the unused seats stowed away. With the rear seats in place, that shrinks to a more modest 180 litres.

2011 PEUGEOT 4002 Concept

Peugeot introduced a web-based amateur style competition at the 2002 Paris Motor Show, inviting aspiring designers to create a completely unhinged retro-futurist design that incorporated distinct styling features of a historic Peugeot model. A total of 2800 proposals from 90 countries were registered, and Stephen Schulze, a 32-year-old German graphic artist, was selected as the winner. At the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, Schulze was awarded a trophy and €5000, and it was announced that Peugeot would create a full-scale version of the design.

The winner was the talented Stephen Schulze of Germany and his stunning 4002 design. One of the most creative car design concepts in decades, the organically-shaped 4002 is both futuristic as well as replete with styling cues from Peugeots of the past, such as the headlights behind the radiator grille that was seen in the Peugeot 402 of the 1930s.
